The 'Spanfest Folk Festival' 2007 at Kentwell Hall, Suffolk, England 27th & 28th July 2007

Peter Knight & Ian CutlerPeter Knight & Ian CutlerWent to the first 'SPANFEST' folk festival, hosted by legendary British Folk/Rock band Steeleye-Span. Set in the grounds of a Tudor House, event attracted probaby a few thousand festival goers. Most of Britains best Known fiddle players supported the event.

Ruth Angell & Jo HamiltonRuth Angell & Jo Hamilton30 miles away the annual Cambridge Folk Festival was also happening, which must have affected some of the artists/usual folk festival goers. Phil Beer of 'Show of Hands' & Feast of Fiddles didnt attend, for one. Cambridge is our biggest folk event but ive no regrets about supporting this one. It is very similar to Fairport Convention's Cropready Festival. I prefer the setting of this festival, the medieval house & grounds. A lot of fiddle players in various bands, including Morris Dancers.

Feast of fiddles have a Rock Band for backing, with 2 electric guitars & Bass + a drummer. Ruth Angell of Rainbow Chasers & Joe Broughton both played some European Gypsy music on fiddle in two seperate performances, Brian McNiell of Feast of Fiddles played some traditional Scottish folk, with audience participation humming an 'A' to sound like a bagpipe, we had to do this for seven minutes! All performers performed in good weather, except for Steeleye, the headline act, who were accompanied by two hours of rain.
