StringAmp - use the string as the pickup !

The StringAmp is in a transducer class of its own and works on the principle of magnetic induction.
StringAmp is the only maker of a stringed instrument pickup using this unique principle, where the String ITSELF is used as the pickup, making it a direct path to the amplified sound.
The advantages are:

REBO - adjustable electromagnetic pickups for violins, violas, cellos & doublebasses

rebo@uli-boesking.de

Features:

• A two-piece electromagnetic humbucking pickup.

• Freely adjustable.

• Allows adjustment to the individuallities of the instrument like form of bridge and position of strings.

• Very low risk of feedbacks (means: sympathetic feedback like on electric guitar - absolutely no nasty piezo feedbacks).

The 'Spanfest Folk Festival' 2007 at Kentwell Hall, Suffolk, England 27th & 28th July 2007

Peter Knight & Ian CutlerPeter Knight & Ian CutlerWent to the first 'SPANFEST' folk festival, hosted by legendary British Folk/Rock band Steeleye-Span. Set in the grounds of a Tudor House, event attracted probaby a few thousand festival goers. Most of Britains best Known fiddle players supported the event.

Ruth Angell & Jo HamiltonRuth Angell & Jo Hamilton30 miles away the annual Cambridge Folk Festival was also happening, which must have affected some of the artists/usual folk festival goers. Phil Beer of 'Show of Hands' & Feast of Fiddles didnt attend, for one. Cambridge is our biggest folk event but ive no regrets about supporting this one. It is very similar to Fairport Convention's Cropready Festival. I prefer the setting of this festival, the medieval house & grounds. A lot of fiddle players in various bands, including Morris Dancers.

Barry again

Hi Electricfiddler.
Me again. - Not being vain, or anything, but here's one of the clips of us at the Islington Union Chapel in March '07.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEbhww3QUVI
I'm on a skeleton type 4 string electric, through my Peavey tnt130 bass combo amplifier, which may be of interest, because it can take half a lifetime to find an appropriate sound, mellow, but with enough bite for rock an roll. The pa is some multi kilowatt affair, with an engineer at the desk, but dunno what he's done with the mix. Bass and guitar were through house backline, and I'm not miked through the pa, as is my habit.

Hi Electric fiddler

best,
Barry

Mykl Lozin - lovin' the EPOCH

Greetings from Australia

I just found this site via a link to one of my music vid clips, so I thought I'd better drop in and say hi to all the electric string players and makers out there.
As for me, I have been a pro player for over 30 years in just about every style I could draw my bow across, playing in Symphony Orchestras to Rock Bands etc, etc in many places around the world.
I am an endorsed EPOCH player - and have my own Signature Series Instrument - a 5 string carbon fibre violin which I affectionetly call "the Blue Flame". Which by the way, I totally love, and it is by far the best electric violin I have ever played !!!

May I present myself ...

My name is Uli Bösking. I have been freelance (electric) violinist, violist and violin teacher for 20 years, now I'm highschool teacher (music & spanish) in Bremen, Germany.

I'm still composing & performing:

and directing exceptional school projects for electric bowed strings:

Together with audio technician Manfred Reckmeyer (Bremen) I have developed an electromagnetic pickup system for violin, viola, cello & doublebass:

Electric violins on the web

- Silveraintr has a short discussion on King Kong: Ponty plays Zappa, a 1969 collaboration between Frank Zappa and fusion/jazz violinist Jean-Luc Ponty.
- Cassandra complains about her cheap electric violin.
- Ben Kettlewell wrote a long piece on alternative MIDI controllers. Synthesizers can be driven by a range of interesting interfaces besides the conventional keyboard, and violins are a very interesting alternative. His post includes a short discussion on the Zeta range of MIDI violin equipment.
