Pick-ups & Preamps

Hello everyone, I'm new here. I've been playing an acoustic for the past 4 years. I play Indian Classical music. I listen to a lot of jazz,jazz-fusion and metal and would like to play in these genres. Hence I'd like to dabble a bit in tone and effects. I thought buying a good piezo transducer bridge to use with my acoustic would be a better option than buying a low-end elec violin, since I plan to buy a good solid body elec in a few years.I liked the Barbera Transducers' Hybrid Model 4 String Bridge (300 US$). Any suggestions?
They claim that with their bridges, there is no need for a preamp. Would it sound good if i directly into an amp or through a guitar processor into an amp? Or should I get a preamp? I suppose LR Baggs preamps are good...any suggestions?
My total budget for pick up and preamp would be under 500 US$.

Thanks,
Srikant

There is no need for a pre-amp volume wise, no.. but.. I have an instrument ith a Twin Hybrid pickup, and the sound is nasty. It still needs a pre-amp to influence the sound coming from the pickup.
