E. F. Keebler
E. F. Keebler makes tubular electric violins™ and tubular electric violas™ with a very unusual appearance. However the important measurements and design elements of the violin are retained: the scale, string spacing, string heights, and fingerboard angle in relation to the chinrest and shoulder-rest, are all standard. There are two important differences: The instruments of E. F. Keebler are somewhat heavier than an acoustic, and, because of the tubular design, are thicker between the chin and shoulder. Most people however have little difficulty getting used to these differences. Each instrument is handcrafted.
E. F. Keebler developed his own "P-bridge™" transducer pickup, which is thoroughly electromagnetically shielded. Two separate hand-finished pickup elements are placed inside the bridge. They are connected through a blend knob on the side of the instrument, which enables the player to tune the tonal character. According to the E. F. Keebler website this dual-element P-bridge™ pickups makes the instruments "sound FAR more acoustic than most other professional electric violins and violas". Preamp or equalizer are normally not required. For people that prefer any other type of commercial pickup, E. F. Keebler is also willing to install them on these instruments.
