Ted Brewer
Since 1993,Ted Brewer makes futuristic handcrafted acrylic violins in a choice of distinctive shapes. His instruments are probably most famous through Vanessa Mae, who introduced the electric violin to big audiences.
The Hades and Crossbow instruments are supplied with Ashworth Transducers.
Three instrument lines are available:
- Vivo²: It is constructed in an extremely strong monocoque frame from an advanced polymer material, with ebony fingerboard and chin rest. This robust instrument is available from retailers and directly from Ted Brewer. The bridge is made from carbon fibre. A piezo charge pickup, a built-in digitally-controlled analogue amplifier, headphone socket and electronic tuning mode (for the A string) enable full control over tone and volume. The transparant version of this instrument has a series of leds built-in that can be set up to blink along with the playing.
- Crossbow: The Crossbow violin is made from block acrylic material. Its clear acrylic fingerboard, tailpiece and chinrest give the violin a striking glass-like appearance. It has an Ashworth bridge pick-up system. This instrument can be customized: colors, 4 or 5 strings can be chosen.
- Hades: The Hades instrument is entirely hand-crafted from coloured acrylic, which is bonded together and then carved and polished. The pick-up is from Ashworth. The Hades violin is available in a range of colours, as well as clear. You can also choose from 4 or 5 string versions.
